What We Delete vs. What We Retain
When you submit a deletion request, we permanently remove all personal data tied to your account. Some limited data may be retained where required by law or for legitimate security purposes — this is clearly marked below.

Anonymized data is not personal data. Usage data we anonymize cannot be linked back to you. It has no names, emails, or identifiers — it's used only for aggregate platform analytics (e.g., "X% of users viewed the fit score feature").
How Deletion Works
Here's what happens after you submit a deletion request:
- Immediately — Request received & acknowledged. You'll receive an automated confirmation email to the address you provided. Keep this for your records — it includes your request reference number.
- Within 5 business days — Identity verification (if needed). For security, we may send a follow-up email to verify that the request is coming from the account owner. This protects you from unauthorized deletion requests.
- Within 14 days — Core data deleted from active systems. Your resume files, account profile, job preferences, fit scores, and email subscription are permanently removed from our live databases.
- Within 30 days — Data purged from backups & third-party systems. Residual data in backup snapshots and third-party services (such as Beehiiv) is removed or expired. Usage logs are anonymized.
- Completion — Deletion confirmed via email. You'll receive a final confirmation email confirming that your data has been deleted, along with a summary of any data retained for legal purposes.
Deletion is permanent and irreversible. Once your data is deleted, it cannot be recovered. If you think you may want to use Job-Genie.ai again in the future, consider simply closing your account or unsubscribing from communications instead — you can reactivate any time.
How to Submit a Deletion Request
To request deletion, email privacy@job-genie.ai with the subject line "Data Deletion Request — [your email]" and include:
- Your first and last name
- The email address on your account
- What you'd like deleted (your full account, just your resume, or specific data)
- Optionally, your reason for deletion and any additional details
We'll send a confirmation to your email within 24 hours, and complete the request within 30 days in accordance with CCPA and GDPR timelines.
Alternatives to Full Deletion
Deletion is permanent. If you're not sure, these options may address your concern without losing your data:
- Unsubscribe from emails — use the unsubscribe link in any Job-Genie.ai email to stop all marketing communications. Your account and resume data remain intact.
- Delete just your resume — log into your account and remove your uploaded resume files at any time from your profile settings. The rest of your account stays active.
- Pause your account — stop using the platform without deleting your data. You can return and reactivate whenever you need to.
- Request a data export first — before deleting, request a copy of your data so you have a record. Email privacy@job-genie.ai with "Data Export Request" in the subject line.
